Amidst our summer and fall programs, we welcomed five new team members to the NAATE staff. Our varied, growing team works together to construct and facilitate our comprehensive, residential professional development programs.
Cari Winterich, Director of Programs, actually joined us from one such program. Cari was a participant in our first School Leader Program we held in the summer of 2014 while she served as principal of Harlem Village Academics High School. During her tenure at HVA, Cari sent several teachers to NAATE and witnessed the transformative experience the program had for each of them as professionals and as teacher leaders within the school. Prior to school leadership, she was also a teacher at The Brooklyn Latin School where she served as the history department chair. These days, Cari works from our New York office where she organizes and directs multiple work streams to make our program possible.
We were also thrilled to welcome Tamika Guishard this year as our new Director of School Partnerships in the Northeast. During the course of her career, Tamika has explored the intersection between education and the arts, with time in schools as a NYC Teaching Fellow and a filmmaker with an MFA from the NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Tamika now builds and maintains relationships with our schools, networks, and teachers throughout the northeast.
Triana Urraca recently joined our team as our new Research Manager. Through this role, Triana analyzes the effectiveness of our program work with our teacher and school leader participants. Prior to NAATE, Triana spent three years working for the Young Women’s Leadership Network, a high-performing network of all-girls public secondary schools in New York City. Last summer, she completed the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Strategic Data Project Institute for Leadership in Analytics.
This fall, we also welcomed Amanda Tien (Marketing and Creative Design Associate) and Alyssa Gill (Fundraising and Partnership Associate) through a partnership with Venture for America, a fellowship that brings young entrepreneurs to start-ups and new organizations in cities across America.
Prior to joining us, Amanda spent a year working for Y&R Advertising in New York as a Global Communications Associate where she worked on the large firm's international content and strategy. She graduated in 2014 from Columbia University with a BA in Creative Writing. While there, she co-founded Culinarian, a student culinary arts magazine that featured interviews with chefs, restaurant reviews, and dorm-friendly recipes. In her role for NAATE, she manages a variety of marketing efforts including video editing, graphic design, print materials, and more.
Alyssa graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a BA in Political Science in 2015, and has almost two years of experience fundraising for Penn State academics. She was also heavily involved in the Humanitarian Engineering & Social Entrepreneurship (HESE) program while in school, sparking her passion for social enterprise. Alyssa also has experience coalition building for nonprofit organizations.
All of our team members come together for our programs, and we love the chance to introduce Teacher Fellows and School Leaders alike to our diverse team.
