NAATE Teacher Fellows receive national recognition August 1, 2013
Two NAATE Teacher Fellows have recently received national recognition for their work with students.
Jane Grimes, KIPP Memphis, was a 2013 recipient of the Harriett Ball Excellence in Teaching Award. The Harriett Ball Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes outstanding teachers from the KIPP network. The winning teachers, who were nominated by their school leaders, were recognized for their leadership in and dedication to improving outcomes for students in underserved communities.
Rob Leichner, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, was a recipient of a 2013 Teach for America Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching. For this award, applicants are required to submit a comprehensive application, including letters of recommendation from students, their parents, and staff at their schools; classroom video and observations by Teach For America staff; lesson and unit plans; essay responses; and interviews with students, colleagues, and administrators. Applicants are assessed based on their impact on educational outcomes, unwavering belief in the potential of all students, and long-term commitment to teaching as a way to combat educational inequity.
